Instead of buying tangerines, our proposal is to increase the tangerine tree in your home.

How to Grow Tangerines at Home:

Preparation and Planting

You will need medium-sized flower pot with holes at the bottom. First place small stones and a bit of sand on the bottom of the flower pot and then add organic soil. After that, put 2-3 tangerine seed in the soil and carefully cover them with ½ inch of potting soil, without pressing them firmly into the soil.

Finally you should cover the pot with a plastic bag in order to promote germination. Make sure to place the flower pot in a sunny area.

Once that happens you need to remove the plastic and move to a place with a direct sunlight. Over time as tangerine tree grows you need to put it into larger container. It is of extreme importance to water the tangerines regularly and cut the broken branches.

Light

Place the tangerines in a direct sunlight for at least 8-12 hours a day. The best solution is to place the pot with your tree near the window. If you have a supplemental light, you can use it and thus promote the growth of the tangerines.

Temperature

Ideal temperature for growing of tangerine tree should be higher than 55°F at night and daytime temperatures should be about 70 – 80°F. If are well watered, this tree tolerates even lower and higher temperatures.

Pests

Experts warn that tangerines are susceptible to spider mites, mealy bugs and scale. To prevent that, check your tree regularly and apply insecticidal soap.
